Pavement Whispers: Volume 80 July 12

From whispers of late-night brownie bars to new bagel joints, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

I Heart Brownies
You know that extra stomach you have for treats? Tell it to get excited. I Heart Brownies is opening a second location in Brisbane City! The kiosk-style store is set to open on the Queen Street level of Wintergarden in the second week of August, and will offer I Heart Brownies’ 12 signature gluten-free flavours, as well as house-made flavoured milk, American-style filter coffee and cold drinks such as pink lemonade. But that’s not all – the treat haven will also be launching its own app in the next two weeks, which will allow you to order your brownies for inner-city delivery, straight to your mouth. But oh, dear readers, there is still more. I Heart Brownies’ Bakery Lane store is expanding, moving its kitchen into the space next door to transform its current space into a late-night dessert bar in October. In addition to its regular trading hours, it will open late on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and offer a new range of decadent sweets – think more sundaes, banana splits and hot and cold chocolate drinks. Oh – and did we mention I Heart Brownies is opening on the Gold Coast later this year? If brownies are taking over the world, we’re fine with it.

NYC Bagel Deli
It’s pretty heartbreaking when you’re in West End craving bagels on a Monday, and NYC Bagel Deli only pops up at Davies Park Markets on Saturdays. But soon that sadness will be a feeling of the past! NYC Bagel Deli has announced a permanent West End location on Vulture Street, set to open early-to-mid August. Similar to its markets, Westfield Chermside and Logan Hyperdome stores, the West End location will offer made-to-order bagels and fresh bagels from The Bagel Boys to take home, as well as Cleanskin Coffee Co. coffee and a few exciting new menu items. Look out on The Weekend Edition for updates!

Lokal + Co
Also in West End, Lokal + Co will be opening for dinner and wine on Friday and Saturday nights as of this week. Lokal + Co’s fresh Scandinavian vibe will carry through to the evenings, with its nighttime menu featuring Nordic-inspired nosh such as sweet potato and cured gravlax croquettes, kjøttkaker (meatballs) with pickled red cabbage, and baby beets and quinoa with hazelnut salsa verde, asparagus and goats cheese. The cafe has also added wines to its offering, with international and local drops gracing the considered list.
