Pavement Whispers: Volume 88 September 6

From whispers of poke bowls to chicken dinners, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Suki
In last week’s The Weekend Series, we predicted poke bowls to be the next big food trend to hit Australia. Well guess what, dear readers? Poke bowls are coming! The team from Olé Restaurant Group (the brains behind Mucho Mexicano, Olé, The Sangria Bar and Downtown Istanbul) has been inspired by a recent trip to the USA, and will be opening new eatery Suki in South Bank in mid-November. Suki will serve up quick and healthy eats, including the poke bowls we’ve been waiting for and sushi burritos. It will be taking over the Grey Street side of the space previously occupied by Dell’Ugo – we’ll have more details for you soon.
P.S. It’s not the first time we’ve seen our picks for The Weekend Series come to life – thanks to us you can now find frosé at Harajuku Gyoza and Alfred & Constance! And you are sooo welcome.

Winner Winner
Speaking of Olé Resturant Group, after four years as its general manager, Luke Stringer is moving on to open his own venue once again. Teaming up with Ashleigh Bates, Luke is opening bar Winner Winner on Given Terrace in Paddington, taking over the site once home to Ruby Cafe. The bar will specialise in craft wines and pour Stone & Wood beers on tap, alongside Nashville-style fried chicken eats. Winner winner chicken dinner indeed! The pair is hoping to have Winner Winner open by early November – we’ll keep you posted.

Pizza Emporium
If you’ve been missing Pizza Emporium in Stafford Heights, dry your eyes! The pizzeria will be reopening soon, in its new digs at The Glass Factory in West End. Due to open in the coming week, Pizza Emporium West End will be dishing up the pizzas its regulars know and love, as well as a delicious selection of dine-in specials. And bonus – the pizzeria’s new location will be licensed. Look out on The Weekend Edition next week for a closer look!
