New skyscraper set to spring up at 30 Albert Street

You'll soon need to adjust your gaze over the Brisbane skyline a little higher with a new high-rise apartment building planned for 30 Albert Street.

In collaboration with Singapore-based developer Aspial, Cox Rayner Architects are set to build what will become Brisbane’s tallest apartment tower. Planned to be 91 storeys at a height of 274 metres above sea level (the maximum allowable in Brisbane), the building at 30 Albert Street will be one storey higher than most of the city’s other proposed towers because it will sit in a lower part of the CBD.

Designed to be a ‘vertical community’ complete with elevated gardens and common areas, the building is expected to accommodate 732 apartments, the majority of which are planned to be one- and two-bedroom units suited to both owner-occupiers and investors. Down at ground level, there will also be retail spaces and landscaping in line with Brisbane City Council’s plans for an active Albert Street boulevard.

While they are still subject to council approval, the apartments are expected to be released to the market in early 2016.
