New 59-level apartment tower planned for 500 George Street

The new residential apartment tower planned for construction in Brisbane City is set to be very tall, very thin and very urban.

If Nielson Properties’ proposal goes ahead, Brisbane will soon welcome a new 59-level residential tower to its architectural landscape. Located at 500 George Street, the 190-m tall building will comprise of 144 serviced apartments and student accommodation from level 8 to 25, and 248 one- and two-bedroom residential apartments from level 26 to 56. The development involves the complete retention of the King George Chambers at the front of the site, with connectivity through the ground level to ensure the retained building provides a foyer component and the main pedestrian access point to the new development.

Designed by Brisbane-based architectural firm Cottee Parker, the tower includes a full-floor residents’ sky pool and terrace on level 58, complete with recreational space and outdoor seating facilities to encourage entertaining. The tower is also one of the city’s thinnest buildings, measuring less than 20 m wide, signifying Brisbane’s move to adopt the global trend of narrower, taller buildings.
