As per a statement released by Queensland deputy premier and treasurer Jackie Trad, it has been revealed that the Brisbane Transit Centre is set to be demolished along with the Hotel Jen in late 2020. With planning for the underground Cross River Rail system and entertainment behemoth Brisbane Live well underway, early works are set to start as soon as next year. Roma Street train and bus stations will continue to operate throughout the construction period.
Since discussions began, the Labor party has seen Cross River Rail and the Brisbane Live development going hand-in-hand to transform a tired part of the city into an entertainment, lifestyle and sports hub, with the accompanying transport infrastructure set to support the influx of people. The proposal from AEG Ogden includes an 18,000-seat arena modelled on the company’s own LA Live, which is home to the internationally renowned Staples Centre. Brisbane Live is slated to provide world-class performers with a higher capacity venue in the inner city, with Boondal’s Brisbane Entertainment Centre currently being the most suitable option for large-scale tours.
