This PDA is the latest development in the $5.4 billion Cross River Rail development, which has sparked much public interest since its initial announcement. Treasurer Jackie Trad announced the PDA to support the delivery of the project’s Albert Street station, which is set to be built 31 metres below the ground. The 220-metre-long station is the deepest of the whole Cross River Rail project.

The Albert Street station will provide rail services to the southern end of the CBD for the first time in the city’s history, with projected figures of about 67,000 people using the transport connection each weekday by 2036. The station is also making headlines for being Brisbane’s first CBD station to be built in 120 years. This Albert Street location is one of five stations, joining locations at Boggo Road, Woolloongabba, Roma Street and Exhibition as part of the complete project.
