Fun unplugged – go back to basics with Brisbane’s own Crossbones games

As much as we love living in an age of serious technological advancement (and UberEATS), sometimes it’s important to unplug from our many devices and enjoy the world that is happening right around us. Weekends in the park or on the beach have long been a perfect excuse to get the gang together, but we’ve found something that’s bound to take your next group gathering to the next level – some good old-fashioned competition in the form of Crossbones.

If you were raised in the era of backyard cricket, skittles and kick the can, Crossbones will no doubt be right up your alley. Created by Brisbane local Robert Draycott, the old school-outdoor game was created with a vision to get families and friends off the grid and back to enjoying each other’s company sans-screen. Thanks to its easy rules, inclusive nature and portable design, it’s not hard to see Crossbones becoming a staple for your next backyard barbecue or park picnic.

Like all of the best things in life, the rules and design of Crossbones have been kept streamlined and simple. Something of a hybrid between bocce and horseshoes, the aim of the game is to use your skill and luck to score points by landing your ‘bones’ on top of your opponent’s. Anywhere from two to 12 people can get in on the fun, splitting into two teams that race to reach the allocated number of points. The game is stored in a light shoulder bang and weighs in at a mere 1.5kg, meaning it’s easy to bring along to all of your outdoor events.

Want to get on top? You can purchase the official Crossbones game on the brand’s website.
