Grand plans for Eat Street Markets to expand

The ever-popular Eat Street Markets may soon become a haven for thrill seekers if a proposed adventure park gets the stamp of approval.

Economic Development Queensland has submitted a proposal to relocate one of Brisbane’s most-loved attractions, the Eat Street Markets, to a more expansive site in the same Northshore Hamilton precinct. The move to a new, sprawling 10,200-sqm site will significantly increase the existing capacity of the markets (currently located on an 8500-sqm site), and will also make way for a raft of new attractions.

Part of the proposal includes the introduction of a ‘container adventure park’, which will occupy a 5300-sqm site, and 50 to 60 shipping containers, each housing a range of activities, from climbing walls, bungee tramps and zorb balls, to laser tag, paintball, and an inflatable obstacle course. The containers will be connected with a series of bridges and decks, and will be able to accommodate up to 50 participants and 350 guests for viewing or functions. The proposal also includes the development of an urban winery and/or micro-brewery, and a fresh produce garden.
