House Conspiracy establishes artist hub in the heart of West End

In a huge boon for the local arts scene, an unused Queenslander on Mollison Street has been given a new lease on life as a vibrant art space. Doubling as a creative hub and gallery location, House Conspiracy is an accessible space for independent artists to formulate new work in peace before showing it off to the community.

The team behind popular monthly art night Roving Conspiracy has taken the next step in promoting local artistic endeavour by establishing its own artist residency and gallery space – House Conspiracy. A dedicated team of volunteers has come together to refurbish an under-utilised Queenslander – turning it into a multi-faceted space for artistic use. The House Conspiracy team has consulted with artists to decide on how best to use the space and honing in on what the independent art scene in Brisbane is lacking.

Seeking to bring together creative minds in a shared space, House Conspiracy is opening up several rooms within the house for an artist residency program – the only one of its kind in Brisbane. Over three weeks the artists from a range of disciplines work on new pieces, which are then displayed in a group exhibition at the end of the tenancy period. While artists are given free reign on how their work will take shape, all creative tenants are required to leave a physical mark on the space in some way to create a tapestry of creative endeavour as an example to the community. House Conspiracy celebrated its first exhibition earlier this month and the space is also open to bookings for small events.
