Newmarket Village is celebrating its massive new Reading Cinema with a film-themed basement party

The hotly anticipated opening of the Reading Cinema and accompanying dining precinct at Newmarket Village is almost upon us, which means it’s time to celebrate. Held over two days from December 16–17, the For the Love of Film Village Party will take over the space beneath the cinemas to celebrate all things silver screen.

For the Love of Film Village Party is a basement blockbuster that will gather cinephiles together for a weekend of eats, beats and movie appreciation. The free block party will feature a fully functioning bar inspired by Pulp Fiction’s Jack Rabbit Slims, DJ sets comprising only the best soundtracks (hello Top Gun), plus the chance to recreate Insta-worthy scenes from Forrest Gump, Indiana Jones and Up. The new dining options in the precinct will be open for business, with the likes of Schnitz, Sushi Edo, Little Red Dumpling and more slinging their delicious wares over the weekend.

Undoubtedly one of the coolest parts of For the Love of Film is the cocktail making (and drinking) classes, set to be led by the legendary Shaun Byrne from Melbourne’s own Gin Palace. The four classes on offer are split into fun categories where three delicious movie-inspired cocktails will be up for the tasting. Cult classics like Back to the Future, Silence of the Lambs, Deadpool, Donnie Darko and more will be brought to life in liquid form, and the classes are a steal at just $10 each. You can take a look at all of the classes and make bookings here. More cinematic fun comes in the form of special Star Wars themed doughnuts from Doughnut Time, as well as a special Virtual Reality experience, aptly dubbed ‘Jedi Training Academy’.

Ready to nerd out over some film fanatic fun times? For the Love of Film is free to attend, so head to Newmarket Village on December 16–17 to get in on the action.
