Expo ’88 did a lot of things for Brisbane, especially its skyline. The SkyNeedle has been standing proudly in the heart of South Brisbane ever since its construction in the late 80s, and now the area is set to get a rejuvenation thanks to Pradella’s plans for SkyNeedle Walk. Plans for the precinct include a new designer apartment building, an open-air plaza and a laneway that will connect Edmondstone and Manning Streets, as well as a cafe, which will be installed at the base of the 88-metre pillar of the SkyNeedle.
Construction has already commenced on the SkyNeedle Apartments, which will include two towers boasting a total of 237 one and two-bedroom apartments. An oasis featuring a lagoon-style pool, sundeck, outdoor entertainment area and subtropical gardens will be open to residents, with more private amenities to come. Design cues have been taken from the SkyNeedle itself, with circular spaces, natural materials, contoured textiles and copper touches sprinkled throughout the development.
