Bespoke design and local artisans come together at The Collective

Longtime friends and shop neighbours Daryl Wark and Diane Lopes sure know their stuff when it comes to interior design and homewares.

With respective stores Du Monde and Green Tangerine sitting on Latrobe Terrace for many years, the pair have garnered a reputation for sourcing lust-worthy decor, hard-to-find items and the kind of soft furnishings you think only exist on Pinterest. Daryl and Diane have recently combined their creative forces to open The Collective, a wide sun-filled spaced on Samford Road that brings together a group of like-minded creatives to offer both retail and design services.

The Collective houses Daryl’s new concept, Interiors by Daryl Wark, which offers decorative items and homewares as well as a complete interior design service – from custom shutters, furniture, rugs and cushions through to full home design and renovation consultation. The larger space allows Daryl to showcase his wares (many of which are Brisbane made) and also makes way for intimate evening design classes – the first, Fix My Room, takes place on Thursday April 28. Diane’s second instalment of Green Tangerine also calls The Collective home. This space has a distinctly different feel to its older Paddington sibling, focusing more on artisan wares with a clean aesthetic. A number of local ceramic artists are showcased, including mud australia, Kim Wallace and Samantha Robinson, and you’ll also find jewellery, prints, planters and accessories – all equally practical as they are delicate and beautiful.

The rest of The Collective is dedicated to pop-up stores with a few key criteria – that they are local, authentic and have a story. Since its soft opening at the end of last year, The Collective has hosted online store Willko, a landscape gardener, a local fashion designer and more. Each pop-up has a minimum six weeks in the space, with many returning to The Collective on a seasonal basis.
