Celebrated contemporary artist Vincent Fantauzzo has achieved a lot in his 41 years – in addition to his found Archibald People’s Choice Awards he has won the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize and the Archibald Packing Room Prize, among many other accolades. Vincent is renowned for his incredible photorealism portraits of notable figures, including the likes of Heath Ledger, Matt Moran, Julia Gillard and his now-wife Asher Keddie. Now, the artist is the namesake of Art Series Hotels eighth property at Howard Smith Wharves, The Fantauzzo – the first new Art Series property to open under the AccorHotels banner.
The $100-million six-storey luxury hotel has been carved into the cliff beneath the Story Bridge and will feature 166 guest rooms, featuring both original Vincent Fantauzzo artworks and up to 500 reproductions of his most-recognised works. Architects SJB drew on Vincent’s photorealism style to create a counterpoint in the property, moving away from the traditional white gallery-style look to contrast his work with polished concrete and dark tones again reflective black glass. The hotel will also take inspiration from its cliff face backdrop, with its angular exterior highlighted by natural rock and timber. The Fantauzzo will offer a spectacular rooftop pool boasting sweeping views of the Brisbane River and The City, as well as four food and beverage outlets, a bar, gym and three conference rooms.
The Fantauzzo is due to open in March 2019 with bookings now open via the Art Series website.
