Let’s face it, we’ve all got that one vintage furniture piece that we regret buying. It would be great if we could simply repurpose it, but odds are there are few of us with the know-how to make it happen. Michael Hanley is one resourceful designer that is able to not only see objects in a new light, but also has the skills to customise them as he sees fit. Upswitch is Michael’s design business, which fashions bespoke lamps and lights out of repurposed objects and materials.
Michael creates his illumination devices using everything from old lamps and homewares to recycled wood. There doesn’t seem to be any limit to his creativity as evidenced by his upcycled op-shop finds. Upswitch’s range includes reconfigured brass microscopes, brownie box cameras, toy boats, blenders and more. Each piece is handmade and adds an extra level of character to any room – head to the Upswitch website to find out for yourself.
