You can quit lusting after Melbourne now – West End is getting four new public laneways

West End has long been a popular spot amongst Brisbane’s trend setters and arty peeps. It’s hard to resist the suburb’s charm as a melting pot of different cultures – from the food to the people, this inner-city gem has a solid reputation as Brisbane’s capital of cool. The 4101 postcode envy is set to peak with the announcement of West Village’s plan to create four new public laneways in the precinct.

We’ve been getting bits and pieces of the mammoth West Village development plans since its initial launch, but this laneways announcement has really got us excited. Japanese development company Sekisui House is set to construct the landscaped walking and cycling spaces across the 2.6 hectare West Village site in West End. The hotly anticipated development has been planned out over three stages, with the aim for the project to be completed by 2023.

The four new lanes will total more than 250 metres in length and each take on a distinct character. Mollison Lane, Peters Lane, Wilson Lane and Factory Lane will all be publicly accessible, designed with a focus on freshness and sustainability. The leafy laneways will be activated with a wide range of experiences such as dining, live entertainment and fresh food shopping to name a few. These new additions will also be strictly accessible for pedestrians and bicycles only, as part of West Village’s vision to create a more clean and sustainable Brisbane.

Got some laneway lust? You can find out more information about the laneways and West Village over at the official website.
