Stretching over the 2.6-hectare Peters Ice Cream factory site bounded by Boundary, Mollison, Little Jane and Wilson Streets, the West Village project will feature a mixture of residential, retail, recreational and commercial developments. The project is a joint venture between PAYCE and Sekisui House Australia, and has been designed in accordance with the South Brisbane Riverside Neighbourhood Plan and through extensive community consultation. West Village will feature approximately 6500 square metres of publicly accessible open space, comprising The Common at West Village – a 1400-square-metre landscaped green space with a 50-metre frontage on Boundary Street, an 800-square-metre public plaza and four new pedestrian laneways linking the bordering streets.
The West Village development is set to include up to 1350 apartments over seven buildings of various heights, with a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom offerings. Retail will be a strong focus of the development, including cafes, restaurants and a 4500-square-metre supermarket. The project will also see the revitalisation of two heritage-listed buildings at the centre of the site (including the original Peters Ice Cream factory), a 450-space commercial public car park, parking for 1600 bicycles, and 500 square metres dedicated for community or recreational uses. Construction for West Village will commence in October this year, starting with the creation of green space The Common at West Village. Residential apartment construction is set to begin in mid-2016, with the first residents moving in in late 2017.
