The Weekend Series: enjoy some downtime at these dreamy Airbnb hideaways (within driving distance!)

If you hadn’t already guessed by the name of our website, we live for the weekend. One of the best things to do when you have a day or two off is to pack the car and get out of town to a dreamy locale, and make the most of this fine country that we live in. There's no denying that Airbnb has revolutionised the way we travel – it’s never been easier to find unique accommodation options, from secluded cabins to breezy beachside lofts. We’ve found a few idyllic locations to escape to when the big smoke gets under your skin, all within a few hours drive from Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Crystal Creek Treehouse – Upper Crystal Creek, New South Wales (approximately two-hour drive)
If you need some time away to disconnect and embrace pure chill, this is the perfect place to do it. Nestled amongst the trees and overlooking the stunning Crystal Creek, this treehouse cabin takes things back to nature. Cook your meals on a potbelly stove, shower under mountain springs and forget about technology for a hot minute – you won’t find a microwave or TV here, folks. The cabin is also close to some cool attractions like the Margaret Olley Art Centre, Tyalgum’s cafes and boutiques, plus the gorgeous Springbrook Natural Bridge.

Tree Top Eco Retreat – Sunrise Beach, Queensland (approximately one hour and 45 minute drive)
The Sunshine Coast offers the best of both worlds when it comes to the beach and the bush, and this eco retreat really makes the most of it. You can wake up to the sound of birdsong and a sweeping view of the Noosa National Park from the fully enclosed Balinese-style bamboo bedroom, which despite looking open to the elements is actually darn cosy. Chill out on the spacious deck and lounge in the hammock with a good read or go exploring to the beaches and parks nearby. Bonus points: you can order an in-house professional massage!

Clouds Safari – Beechmont, Queensland (approximately one hour and 20 minute drive)
You’ve heard of glamping, right? Clouds Safari is pretty much the pinnacle of that experience. Perched on a hill in the Gold Coast Hinterland, this permanent tent-style retreat offers sweeping 180-degree views of Springbrook Mountain and the Numinbah Valley. Whip up a charcuterie board and stoke the flames of the indoor fireplace or take the five-minute drive to check out the famous heart-shaped waterfall at Killarney Glen – whatever you choose to do with your time, you’ll be sure to leave feeling ultra-relaxed.

Bodhi Treehouse – Broken Head, New South Wales (approximately two-hour drive)
For something totally unique, it’s hard to go past the Bodhi Treehouse. Tucked away amongst 17 acres of protected rainforest, this three-storey getaway is conveniently located close to some of the best beaches around – hello Broken Head, Byron and Lennox. The dwelling has loads of eco-friendly touches throughout and is made from recyclable materials, adding a rustic and earthy charm that complements the natural surroundings. Other features worth getting keen for include the fully equipped and covered outdoor kitchen, as well as the dreamy ocean views from the top floor.

Hinterland Forest Cabin – Goonengerry, New South Wales (approximately two-hour drive)
Have you ever taken a shower under the stars? Now is your chance. This quaint and private Hinterland Forest Cabin is a little slice of heaven – intricately carved timber panels and large glass windows make the timber structure stand out amongst the subtropical rainforest. The outdoor bathroom is a serious highlight, offering a bath and shower (and even a loo with a view). A few days here is also the perfect detox from technology – mobile and TV reception ain’t no thang.
