Cool off
It would be remiss of us not to mention the natural wonders that abound in the Currumbin area. We’ve established that we’re all across the beach, but one alternative way to cool off is a trip to the rock pools – the lush swimming hole is a prime spot to soak up some sun and splash around. For those who want to take the experience further, seek out the Mount Cougal section of Springbrook National Park – an 800 metre walking trail will lead you to cascading waterfalls, more rock pools and an historic bush sawmill.
Going green
Did you know that Currumbin is proudly home to its own internationally recognised and award-winning sustainable community? It’s called the Ecovillage and it really is a sight to behold – the grounds are spread over 270 acres of sprawling green land, with its small population dedicated to living a waste-free and ecologically responsible existence. Be sure to swing by on the second Saturday of the month to catch the Green Marquee Eco Markets, a glorious haven of sustainable goodies including food, fashion, homewares and more.
Thirsty work
For those who love to knock the froth off a cold one, Balter HQ is a must-do. The brewery is home to its namesake beer, pouring delicious brews straight from the taps. The warehouse-style space exudes chill vibes and looks darn pretty to boot, featuring a massive Frank and Mimi mural on the wall. Balter also regularly hosts food trucks and pop-ups from some of the Gold Coast and Brisbane’s favourite names, so you can be rest assured that the nosh is also top notch.
Culinary creations
Feel like your kitchen game could stand some improvement? Book yourself in for a cooking class at Tenteram Fine Foods and watch the magic unfold – the unique classes make use of Tenteram’s amazing range of fresh, seasonal produce and teach you how to cook without using salts, refined sugars and starchy stuff. When it’s all over you get to eat your healthy creations in the surrounds of the tropical rainforest – win win!
Farm life
Currumbin is a hot spot for amazing fresh produce, with a number of local institutions dedicated to supplying the area with the best of the best. Open to the public on weekends, you can wander through the Currumbin Valley Harvest to pick up some premium biodynamic fruit and veg. Freeman’s Organic Farm is another rad spot to get amongst the fresh fare – as well as filling your basket with goodies, be sure to hang around for some homemade banana bread and specialty coffee.
Take my breath away
It really pays off to stop and look around sometimes, particularly in a place as beautiful as Currumbin. Take the drive up Tomewin Mountain Road to Arthur Freeman Lookout and we promise you won’t be disappointed – take in sweeping views across the Currumbin Valley to the spectacular escarpment of Mt Tallebudgera, Springbrook National Park, Boyd’s Butte, and Mt. Cougal National Park (the Cougals) – all part of Australia’s Green Cauldron.
Stay the night
There’s so much more in Currumbin that you could possibly pack into one day, so why not stay a night or two?
