BYO pooch – we’ve sniffed out the best dog-friendly camping near Brisbane

Anyone with a dog would be familiar with the absolutely gut-wrenching scenario of leaving for a holiday and seeing your precious little fuzzball staring back at you with those eyes when they realise that they can’t come with. My heart! My soul! One of the best ways to combat this is with camping – plenty of room, some killer scenery and the natural life are a real sweet deal. We’ve teamed up with our official site partner Mercedes-Benz Brisbane and its pooch-lovin’ ambassador Sofie Formica, we’ve sniffed out some of the best camping spots that won’t get snooty if you have a furry mate in tow. Stock up on poop bags, pack the leash and hit the road!

Bluff Creek at Kenilworth
If you’re looking for dog-friendly camping near Brisbane that’s a bit boutique and unique, head into the Sunshine Coast hinterland for a stay at Kenilworth’s Bluff Creek camping ground. This stunning spot exudes tranquil vibes and the campsites are extremely generously sized, meaning you won’t run into your neighbours unless you want to. You certainly won’t be struggling to find things to do – swim, fish, hike or explore the surrounding region with cheesemakers, wineries, markets and beaches all within an easy drive of the property. Oh, and keep your eye out for the adorable site dog, Rusty.

Boreen Point Campground
If you like the lake life, you’ll love the Boreen Point campgrounds. Nestled in natural bushland on the shores of Lake Cootharaba, this secret spot has been a hit with the locals for more than 70 years – making it the perfect low-key spot to head if you are chasing dog-friendly camping near Brisbane. This spot is an ideal base for nature-based activities like bushwalking and mountain biking, not to mention the lake is a rad spot to kayak. If you need to get back to civilisation for a bit, the historical Apollonian Hotel and Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club are nearby. This little lakefront gem is pet-friendly – just make sure you have applied in advance and it’s not a peak period. For more information on the rules surrounding peak times you can check out the Noosa Holiday Parks website.

Borumba Deer Park
There’s nothing worse than getting to your camping destination to discover that you’re going to be packed in like a sardine, which is why it gives us great pleasure to let you know about Borumba Deer Park. This super-spacious spot is nestled inland from the Sunshine Coast and two of the three designated camping spots are dog-friendly. The nearby Yabba Creek is the star of the show, where you can swim, kayak and fish to your heart’s content.

Rainbow Beach Holiday Village
Keen to add a bit of colour to your next dog-friendly camping near Brisbane? The brilliantly hued sandy dunes surrounding the Rainbow Beach Holiday Village ought to do the trick! Just north of Noosa Heads you’ll find this coastal gem, which is made up of a mixture of permanent holiday accommodation and dog-friendly beachfront camping grounds. There is plenty to do around the area with swimming, fishing, four-wheel driving along the beach and even whale and dolphin watching at the right time of year.

Inskip Point Recreation Area
If you’re unfamiliar with Inskip Point, let us educate you – it is a stunning peninsula just north of Rainbow Beach that is surrounded by crystal clear blue waters. The Inskip Point Recreation Area is a low-key and natural site where you will find open ocean beaches and sheltered estuary shores perfect for splashing around in. Just be aware that if you’re travelling with dogs to or from Inskip you have to detour via the Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach sealed roads.

Flinders Beach Camping Ground
For a Stradbroke Island getaway with your pooch, you can’t go past the Flinders Beach Camping Ground. The actual grounds consist of 12 separate waterfront sites that are nestled in the dunes and are only accessible by four-wheel drive, so you’re guaranteed to not be too crowded. Flinders Beach is a stunner but just be aware that the amenities are located at Adder Rock and not onsite. You can grab more information on dog-friendly areas on the island here.

Tamborine Mountain Caravan and Camping Park
Is the thought of a mountain retreat with your closest furry pal a total dream? Well, the Tamborine Mountain Caravan and Camping Park can make this dream a reality with its lush camping sites. Set amongst the trees in the northern valley of beautiful Thunderbird Park, you can walk to the spring-fed creek for a refreshing dip in one of the many secret swimming holes around the area.

This post was created with our good friend Sofie Formica, ambassador for our official site partner Mercedes-Benz Brisbane. The vehicle pictured is Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo ACTIVITY, available from Mercedes-Benz Brisbane Vans at 195 Lutwyche Road, Windsor.
