Main Beach
The first stop on the Gold Coast food trail is logically at the beginning – Main Beach. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so swing by Local & Co. for a primo way to start your day – think Nutella waffles and mountains of crispy bacon. Lovers of seafood are spoilt for choice with the likes of Glass Dining & Lounge Bar and Omeros Bros each serving up the freshest eats and killer ocean views to boot. Anyone with a fussy crew in tow will feel blessed to find that the Southport Surf Life Saving Club’s menu boasts a huge range of classics done to perfection including pasta, burgers and melt-in-your-mouth ribs.
Surfers Paradise
A little further down the way, Surfers Paradise has got you covered for delicious artisan eats. For delicatessen vibes with a high-class touch, Salt Meats Cheese is a one-stop shop for anyone who loves a bit of charcuterie action. Seascape Restaurant + Bar offers the best of both worlds, with the multi-level split into both casual and fine-dining spaces that specialise in contemporary seafood. You’ll want to pack your stretchy pants for a visit to Bazaar, where the buffet offerings are bursting with worldly inspiration. For food that’s (almost) too beautiful to eat, Seaduction Restaurant + Bar comes through with the goods – this is gastronomy at its finest, gels and foam included.
Broadbeach
Let’s keep rolling, shall we? From morning to night, Broadbeach has got a laid-back vibe without skimping on the details. Coffee connoisseurs must pay a visit to Elk Espresso, a quirky cafe with fresh fare that makes a mean cup of joe. With a hint of Melbourne chic, No Name Lane’s bites and brews are the best in the business. Sharing is caring, and the team at Koi know it – boasting an impressive selection of tapas and antipasto, there are also plenty of tender meats and mains to keep hungry patrons more than satisfied. For fancy food without the pretence, The Lazy Goose is the place to be – grab small plates for a taste of everything or go the whole hog with a decadent main.
Burleigh Heads
Continuing on the southern trajectory, Burleigh is all about keeping it fresh. There are a number of digs that specialise in international cuisine, making a stopover in Burleigh truly continental. Kick-start your heart with a cuppa from Commune, a cute and affordable cubby with vintage vibes. A hearty all-day breakfast is the cornerstone of the bustling Pantry Cafe, pumping out high-quality favourites for the masses. Asian fusion is the name of the game at Rick Shores, offering Thai-based nosh with culinary influences from Vietnam and beyond. Hellenika is all about indulgence, with its high-quality Greek fare focused on fresh takes on favourites. It doesn’t get much fresher than The Fish House, with produce flown in daily to ensure top-notch taste.
Currumbin
Last but certainly not least, Currumbin is the final stop on the trail. Although it’s verging on New South Wales territory, Currumbin still falls north of the border and is loaded with coastal charm. For food and views that will take your breath away, The Boatshed Restaurant & Bar is second to none. Patrons can stroll right in off Currumbin Creek – sandy feet and all – to enjoy a fresh and seasonal menu with options to the tune of pizza, burgers and seafood. You’ll find more than a sprinkle of European flair at Allure on Currumbin – the cuisine here is French-focused, with familiar classics such as duck a l’orange and buttery escargot on the menu. Finish up the night with a crepe suzette and you’re guaranteed to walk away with a very happy tummy.
