Escape to retro design heaven at The Sunseeker Byron Bay

Say hello to the new kid in town - the recently renovated retro motel The Sunseeker is bringing a little bit of vintage authenticity to the Byron Bay accomodation scene. With old-school tropical vibes meeting art and design from some of the area's most creative people, Byron's newest place to stay takes a beach holiday and adds a whole lot more fun.

A trip down south for a weekend away in Byron is a go-to for many of us, and one that’s ingrained in many of our memory banks. The Sunseeker draws on this nostalgia and is a place where holidays of the past are reimagined with a twist. An inspiring example of Australian creatives collaborating to produce something truly reflective of the area’s diverse influences, the motel encapsulates the values that travellers are increasingly seeking – a place that’s not only authentic and interesting, but one that has great design and doesn’t scrimp on the little luxuries. We’ll get straight to the point: we want to move here. Unfortunately that’s not an option, so a weekend in one of the bungalows will have to do.

Far from being a clinical hotel, the rooms are effortlessly stylish and character-filled, incorporating quirky aesthetics and plenty of details to discover. As part of the motel’s renovation, The Sunseeker has dialled up the luxury and instead of just being a place to crash for the night, is now a space to play, relax and gather. Lounge by the tiki-inspired Pool Bar while you sip on a cocktail or nibble on a Hibachi-grilled bar snack, or take a dip in the mineral pool before gathering around the outdoor fire as the sun dips below the horizon. Kids are more than welcome, and can choose to clamber over the playground, grab a complimentary scooter or explore the educational planter boxes (growing the garnishes on the specialty cocktails)!

Kick off the day with a coffee and a pastry from the Take Away Coffee Cart, or choose to laze around for a while. In each room, all of the little details have been taken care of – including complimentary coffee from The Coffee Supreme that’s far from the usual tasteless instant coffee sachets and organic tea blends from Mayde Tea. You’d be hard-pressed to find a detail that screams ‘vacay’ more than an outdoor bath, and (of course) there’s plenty of alfresco bathing opportunities at The Sunseeker. After a big day by the beach, sit back and relax with a wine while you soak and stare up at the stars, surrounded by palm trees. With standard rooms, family rooms and bungalows, you’ll find an option to suit whether you’re in Byron for a romantic escape, a trip with your BFFs or a family holiday.
