Secret bars and shape-shifting storylines – what you didn’t know about immersive theatrical experience A Midnight Visit

Combining thrilling theatrics with Edgar Allan Poe story elements, A Midnight Visit has been entertaining Brisbane audiences from inside a disused Fortitude Valley warehouse the past few months. Luckily for thrill-seekers that haven't had the chance to experience the sheer madness of the project, A Midnight Visit has added more shows, so we decided to delve into this mysterious pop-up playground and provide you with some salacious secrets about the production ...

You can knock back cocktails at not just one, but two barsA Midnight Visit’s enchanting dream world is brought to life across multiple rooms with a super-talented cast. Before and after all of the theatrics, you can pause for a tipple (or two) at the experience’s onsite bar, The Raven’s Rest. This perch slings grape juice from Innocent Bystander Wine, cocktails designed by Archie Rose Distilling Co. and beers from Black Hops Brewing CoIf that isn’t enough to get your motor running, a little raven told us that if you keep your eyes peeled, there’s actually another secret bar called Hop Frog’s Lair inside the event just waiting to be discovered – but you’ll have to uncover that one yourself.

Guests can soak up more than eight hours worth of spooky storylines: Inspired by the works of gothic literary icon Edgar Allen Poe, the show follows in the footsteps of internationally renowned projects like New York’s Sleep No More. Keeping the experience fresh, each journey is different from the last – meaning you can visit multiple times and get a completely different experience each time!

There’s a whole fan club dedicated to the production: The fever dream that is A Midnight Visit is so beloved by event-goers that some of them have created a Facebook group dedicated to all of the debaucherous theatrical couture. If you want get a sense of what the fans are raving about before you go, take a gander at the page here.

You can explore more than 30 rooms of craziness: Part choose-your-own-adventure, part film-set and part performance, A Midnight Visit is a wonderland of the weird and wonderful. You’ll encounter strange characters and scenes reminiscent of creations of director David Lynch and everyone’s favourite binge-worthy show Stranger Things, along with dance floors and even a whole room soaked in red as you journey through the mysterious experience. Trust us when we say you won’t get bored.

The season has been extended once more (with some exciting additions): As well as adding extra shows up until Sunday October 31 (which just so happens to be Halloween), A Midnight Visit has announced a collaboration with celebrated Australian comedian and singer Reuben Kaye. Reuben will join the show on October 8, 15 and 22 and reign supreme over the ‘ballroom’ as the Scarlet Prince – inspired by the Prince Prospero in Edgar Allen Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death. The creators are also unleashing a fresh and even more extravagant incarnation of the show in a celebration of Halloween from October 29-31.
