Roll film – the Alliance Française French Film Festival returns with world premieres and transportive flicks

Whilst we dream of once again travelling to France, the Alliance Française French Film Festival 2021 will deliver us the best of the country on the big screen. That's right French-film lovers, the renowned festival is returning to Palace Barracks and Palace James Street with a roster of films that are set to take your breath away from Wednesday March 17 to Tuesday April 13. This year, the crème de la crème of the European film industry will be taking audiences on a thrilling journey with a spectacular selection of contemporary and classic French films, many enjoying their international premiere. Grab some snacks, settle in and read on to learn what you can add to your must-see movie itinerary ...

Prepare to be transported to worlds afar when the Alliance Française French Film Festival 2021 touches down in our river city later this month with a program of 37 awe-inspiring features from beloved French filmmakers and fresh faces in the industry. The Brisbane arm of the festival will launch on Wednesday March 17 with a screening of Eiffel, an enchanting tale about France’s most iconic structure. Other must-sees include Appearances, an edge-of-your-seat thriller that touches on infidelity and revenge, Miss, a joyful story about a boy who dreams of transcending traditional gender norms by entering the Miss France beauty pageant, and Aline, a story that’s inspired by the life of Céline Dion and follows a Quebec teenager whose powerful voice propels her to stardom.

The journey into French cinema continues with The Rose Maker, a riotous flick featuring French film darling Catherine Frot, The Godmother starring beloved movie star Isabelle Huppert and Bye Bye Morons, a madcap quest from creative powerhouse Albert Dupontel. Those seeking a touch of romance can get their fix with films like Love Affair(s), The Wedding Speech and Summer of 85, while France’s fondness for food will be spotlighted in the 18th-century period drama, Delicious. Cultural diversity will also be at the forefront of this year’s program through movies such as The Man Who Sold His Skin, a modern Faustian tale inspired by a real-life story, Arab Blues, a hilarious comedy about adapting to a new culture, and the closing feature #IAmHere, a culture-clash comedy that will have you feeling all of the feels.

The article was created in partnership with our friends at Alliance Française French Film Festival. To peep the full list of films included in this year’s showcase, head to the Alliance Française French Film Festival website.
