The APT9 Summer Festival is bringing some serious heat, offering up a smorgasbord of activities across both galleries and their outdoor spaces. Whether it’s starting the day with some mindfulness yoga, checking out some hands-on activities like weaving and stitching, or even heading to a storytelling session – there is summer fun for every kind of person. If you’re looking to keep cool, GOMA’s Australian Cinémathèque is running films from the Asia Pacific all weekend, or if you’d like to hang outside and enjoy the breeze you can catch local children’s author and poet Dr June Perkins and members of Brisbane’s Kiribati community reading stories under the huge fig tree next to the river – how dreamy!
It’s not just the cracking daytime offering that’s got us all excited – APT9 Summer Festival will feature a special edition of the Gallery’s always-rad Up Late program. On the Friday night, a bumper line-up of live acts including Ngaiire, Electric Fields, Bottlesmoker and May Lyn will be joined by killer DJs Black Amex, Ben Chiu from A Love Supreme and Dameeeela. The entertainment goes beyond the traditional stage – you can also catch performances by Radha La Bia and Dance Masala, or perhaps take part in a musical tour of the APT9 exhibition (led by none other than John Patterson of The Grates).
