At last! Step inside the life and times of the iconic Etta James

When it comes to iconic voices, few people can hold a candle to Etta James. Known as the Matriarch of R&B, Etta spent decades singing songs across the spectrum of human emotion, all while battling some of the most paralysing demons that one can face in a lifetime. She didn’t just sing the blues – she lived them. Coming to the Brisbane Powerhouse for an exclusive run of shows from June 27–30, At Last: The Etta James Story shines a light on one of the most legendary voices of all time … as well as the rich life behind it.

In At Last: The Etta James Story, treasured performer and soul queen herself Vika Bull takes audiences on a journey through song and narration. From her battle with addiction right through to her halcyon days making music right into her seventies, Etta’s story is told brilliantly in a format that explores the artist’s greatest hits – expect to hear beloved tracks like ‘Tell Mama’, ‘Something’s Got A Hold On Me’, ‘Sugar on the Floor’, plus the heart wrenching ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’ and signature tune ‘At Last’. It’s no surprise that Etta’s catalogue of work has influenced such a huge range of performers over the years, with everyone from The Rolling Stones to Amy Winehouse citing her as a major inspiration.

At Last: The Etta James Story
uncovers some of the most sensitive issues of the star’s life, but deals with them gracefully and respectfully. Vika’s unshakeable vocals and emotional energy combine to do nothing but the highest justice to Etta’s career and personal journey. The star of the show is backed by a team of experts that bring this vision to life – musical director John McAll is an expert at interpreting legendary songbooks for the stage, with credits from Let’s Get It On: The Life And Music Of Marvin Gaye, The Songs Of James Bond and Here Comes The Night: The Van Morrison Songbook under his belt. When you add a team of soulful and talented musicians to back it all up, it all falls perfectly into place.

If you’re ready watch the life of a legend, you can grab tickets to At Last: The Etta James Story through Ticketek.
