One of the best things about Australia Day is being able to come together with friends and family to celebrate our uniquely Aussie lifestyle, communities and qualities, and what better place to do it than South Bank? The lush surrounds of the Parklands and the River Quay Green will be teeming with family-friendly activity, with a rad line-up of live music and a spectacular fireworks display being the centrepiece of the day’s proceedings. The low-key vibe means it’s the sort of event where you can rock up with a picnic basket (or pick up some provisions from one of the nearby restaurants) and just bask in some free entertainment – no need to spend a bunch!
A good party needs a killer soundtrack, so it’s a good thing that Australia Day at South Bank is packed with talented home-grown artists to keep things fresh. Taking place on the River Quay Green stage, the program kicks off at 11:00 am with a soulful set from Andrea Kirwin, followed by the energetic local larrikins The Fergies at 1:15 pm. Bearfoot will be taking to the stage at 3:30 pm with a heady dose of roots and reggae, and Hollow Coves will cap off the day with some cool indie-folk tunes at 5:45 pm. To top it all off, the skies will come alive with some stunning pyrotechnics at 7:30 pm for the perfect ending.
Australia Day at South Bank is completely free to attend – keep up with any event updates over at the official Facebook page. Australia Day at South Bank is an alcohol free event.
