Live and loud – Gathering shines a light on Brisbane’s unique Indigenous voices

Brisbane, we know you guys love a free concert – after all, you went a little bit loopy when we let you know about The Sound Society. If you love yourself some live tunes, we have another treat that is bound to excite you. Gathering is a unique Indigenous performance program unlike anything else in the country. The free program is on every Wednesday in the Queen Street Mall from 12:00–1:00 pm, bringing three talented acts to centre stage for your entertainment during March.

Gathering just happens to be the only Indigenous Performance Program in Australia that features a weekly rotating roster of artists in the heart of a major capital city, with performances taking place every Wednesday from 12:00–1:00 pm in the Queen Street Mall. The program highlights Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians across a range of genres, showcasing the huge array of talent that Australia’s First Nations People bring to the community.

Gathering artists for March have been announced and we are in for a seriously awesome mix. On Wednesday March 14 is David Spry, a singer/songwriter whose diverse global sound effortlessly combines reggae, roots and blues with an acoustic edge. He follows in the footsteps of his Marranunggu grandfather, embracing an idiosyncratic and nomadic lifestyle. On Wednesday March 21 audiences can catch the Verandah ChiX, an ensemble of seven awesome Brisbane-based women celebrating their various ancestries through song. Wednesday March 28 is set to be a stunner, with Dhapanbal (a daughter of Yothu Yindi lead singer Dr Yunupingu) capturing attention with her inimitable blend of rock and pop sounds punctuated with song-lines passed on by elders.
