Large and in charge – BIGSOUND brings tunes and tastemakers to The Valley

There’s a certain event that happens every September in Brisbane that holds excitement levels akin to that kid in the Youtube video unwrapping a Nintendo on Christmas morning. We’re talking BIGSOUND, the four-day rager that sweeps Fortitude Valley’s best arts venues with a global gathering of musicians, industry, brands and media. Running from September 5–8, BIGSOUND comes into its 16th year ready to gift us with a festival experience jam-packed with sounds we know and love alongside artists we are ready to fall head over heels for.

Each year BIGSOUND tends to outdo itself with the talent spread it puts on, with 2017 being no exception. The line-up is as large as it is diverse, with amazing live acts putting on shows at a total of 17 key venues in the Fortitude Valley precinct. Close to 100 acts will be performing showcases over the festival’s duration with hot names like Cub Sport, Confidence Man, Ruby Fields, Haiku Hands, Good Boy, Slotface, The Creases and Winston Surfshirt joining a slew of up-and-coming artists set to wow both us punters and the industry representatives alike. BIGSOUND has been responsible for the discovery and fostering of some serious wunderkinds, so go into the festival with an open mind and room in your heart for some new faves.

With a line-up this huge, there are bound to be some surprises in store for this year’s BIGSOUND celebrations. Past editions have seen the likes of Flume playing in a church to 200 people, Kirin J Callinan playing in a shop window at night, Kimbra playing to a minute 100-cap venue and Sailor Jerry’s doing a pop-up tattoo shop – between secret parties, pop-up bars and unofficial showcases you can rely on some seriously rad one-off events going down. Those of you out there who have a keen interest in the industry and business side of things as well as the mad parties should also take note of the conference aspect of BIGSOUND. By day, key Fortitude Valley venues play host to some of the most forward-thinking artists and industry heavyweights ready to impart their knowledge.

Ready to feel the noise? You can scope the full line-up of events and nab tickets to BIGSOUND through the official website.
