The future is looking bright – here are six artists to catch at this year’s BIGSOUND

In case you've been living under a rock (if so, we hope you're comfy), we're pretty stoked to tell you that BIGSOUND, the southern hemisphere’s biggest celebration of new music, is back! Set to take over Fortitude Valley from September 5–8, the ripper festival will become the centre of the Australian music industry, showcasing the very best up-and-coming artists, alongside panels, conferences and more. We've handpicked six artists that we suggest you get to know before they hit the stages at BIGSOUND. Trust us, these artists are not to be missed, so keep reading for all of the details ...

Full Flower Moon Band
Lovers of rock ‘n’ roll, listen up – this band is a must-see for you. Following their debut album Diesel Forever in 2022, which gained them festival slots at Splendour In The Grass, Yours & Owls and more, Full Flower Moon Band has quickly solidified itself as one of Australia’s biggest rock bands. Fronted by hip-swivelling leader Kate Dillon, this band delivers rustic rock-blues with plenty of bite and a whole lot of turbulence. You can catch the crew at The Warehouse on Tuesday September 5, or at The Prince Consort Hotel on Thursday September 7.

Beckah Amani
We implore you to get to know the storyteller behind the mesmerising indie-folk tracks like ‘Smoke And Mirrors’, ‘Waiting On You’ and ‘April’. Her name is Beckah Amani, a Tanzanian-born, Burundi-raised, Australian, 23-year-old singer-songwriter who is set to make waves on Australia’s music scene in 2023. Described as ‘falling apart and making it look like art’ Beckah’s music and lyrics channel her inner turmoil, turning her feelings into songs that showcase her rich and vibrant vocals. Experience Beckah’s inspiring talent live as she takes over The Brightside stage on Wednesday September 6.

Foley
Get ready to boogie as gritty, fearless and dance-inducing duo Foley hit the BIGSOUND stage this September. Encompassing the magic energy and vulnerability of a punchy pop performance, Foley’s music pushes the boundaries, delivering gleaming hooks, infectious rhythm patterns and deft pop arrangements. So come prepared with your best dance moves on Wednesday September 6 and Thursday September 7, for when Foley hit the stage at Blute’s Bar and The Wickham.

Ūla
After generating well over 30 million global streams for her previous releases, an online fanbase of more than 1.5 million, and a series of bumper sets at The Great Escape 2023, pop-punk starlet Ūla is certainly one that is not to be missed at this year’s BIGSOUND. Ūla’s Y2K grunge stylings and ethereal, abrasive indie-pop sounds are making waves, so consider this gig a mandatory attendance. Catch her at The Zoo and Superfly Studios on Wednesday September 6 and Thursday September 7.

Joan & The Giants
Immerse yourself in the captivating lyricism and enchanting sounds of Joan & The Giants at this year’s BIGSOUND. Helmed by Nyul Nyul man Aaron Birch and powerhouse queer vocalist Grace-Newton Wordsworth, the Boorloo band continues to win over music-loving crowds and critics all over the country thanks to their heart-on-sleeve, anthemic pop music, which leaves audiences feeling just as giant as they are. To avoid disappointment, we suggest catching Joan & The Giants at The Outpost on Tuesday September 6 or at Tomcat on Thursday September 5.

Tjaka
Tjaka will have you movin’ on September 5 and 6 as they hit stages at Soapbox Beer and Tomcat. Fusing contemporary electronic and hip-hop production with traditional, Aboriginal ancestral sounds and influences, this trailblazing trio will deliver endless high-energy bangers, smooth guitar and lava-hot rap, combined into a melting-pot of funk, reggae and dance.

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the bounty of artists set to descend on Brisbane this September for BIGSOUND. To peep the full line-up for the festival and to grab tickets, head to the BIGSOUND website. You can nab a one-night ticket for $49 or a three-night for $99. If you want to level up your music industry knowledge, we suggest grabbing a Delegate Pass, which gives you full access to conferences by day and showcases by night.
