From First Nations feasts to late-night secrets and sonic Sunday soirees – our top picks for BLEACH* Festival in 2022

After almost two years of waiting, BLEACH* Festival is preparing to light up the Gold Coast with carefully curated creativity and performances over 11 days in August. From August 11-21, Gold Coast locals are encouraged to celebrate and support an ever-talented collective of artists, singers, performers and musicians as they take over beachside esplanades, botanic gardens and hinterland hideaways. With more than 233 artists, 94 performances and 36 events lined up on the program, there is bound to be something to satisfy every creative appetite. If you're a little stuck on what to attend, fear not! We have combed through the program and plucked out a few highlights worthy of pencilling into your calendar for BLEACH* in 2022.

Mi Amor Miami: August 18, Miami
Mince through the streets of Miami and prepare to sample an intoxicating elixir of live performance, cabaret and burlesque with Mi Amor Miami. Curated by the mixologist of cabaret, Moira Finucane, this evening will have you delving into wild arts at dive bars, breweries and distilleries dotted throughout Miami. For $35, your ticket unlocks the chance to get up close and hair-raisingly intimate with the artists at these seductively immersive theatre events.

Feast at BLEACH*: August 12, North Burleigh Hub
Take a seat at the table and prepare to feast your senses on a First Nations dining experience unlike any other. Hosted by passionate Quandamooka and Kullilli man Kieron Anderson of Yalabin Dining, Feast at BLEACH* is a delicate and respectful fusion of ancient bush flavours and fine-dining flare. Presented under a magical canopy of light flowers and the night sky, Kieron will treat your taste buds to a feast that showcases native bush foods alongside locally sourced produce. While you eat, you’ll also learn about the associated customs and deep spiritual connection that our First Nations peoples share with food and the land in which we feast. This event is guaranteed to sell out. Reserve your spot at the table to avoid missing out.

Acoustic Life of Sheds: August 21, Mudgeeraba
Join a musical convoy as it meanders through the hills of Mudgeeraba, stopping in for four intimate concerts at four iconic rural sheds. This award-winning piece by Big hART provides a platform where leading musicians, composers and artists can celebrate the true-blue culture, character and uniquely acoustic life of sheds. Tickets are only $55 per car, so gather your fellow shed-heads, pull up a hay bale and prepare to be serenaded with site-specific sounds and the stories of these enduring hinterland sheds.

Bliss: August 20, Miami Marketta
Celebrate the Gold Coast’s vibrant Queer, POC and First Nation communities with this intersection of electronic music, queer performance art, eco-tinsel, DJs and VJs. Curated by Tristan Meecham from All The Queens Men, Bliss extends an open invitation to what is set to be a radical and riotous night that celebrates all colours of the rainbow while cementing the power of human connection. We all need a little extra colour in our lives, so nab a ticket and prepare to shimmy and shake off those winter blues at this multi-dimensional extravaganza.

The Nightline: August 11-14, North Burleigh
Prepare to eavesdrop on the voice of night owls, shift workers, insomniacs and restless souls as part of The Nightline – a collection of real-life stories and confessions compiled from more than 600 anonymous callers.
