So what exactly is on offer for the Bris Funny Fest? Well, a whopping 54 shows will be taking place over the two-and-a-half week romp, covering all manner of topics with nothing off-limits. Expect to see genre-spanning offerings in the form of stand-up, musicals, improv and sketch – no matter what your poison is, there is no doubt somebody on the bill doing it very well. It’s not just a sausage fest, either – there is an awesome showing of female talent on the bill, from the hilarious variety show Me Myself & I to the women weirdos from Get in the Cupboard!, the ladies have come to play in a big way.
You could pretty much close your eyes and point at the program to pick something that is going to tickle your pickle, but we’ve taken the liberty of picking a few Bris Funny Fest standouts that you should seek out. Homegrown hero and former Triple J spinner Matt Okine is returning to town for a couple of intimate shows ahead of the launch of his new show The Other Guy on Stan, local legend Lindsay Webb is pedalling his latest offering The World’s Greatest Exaggerator fresh from a praise-filled run at Adelaide Fringe Festival, and New Zealand’s Justin ‘Rusty’ White is bringing his multi-award winning show I Learnt Something Once to our shores. This is just a little sample of what’s on offer over the course of the festival – make no mistake, this is going to be a big couple of weeks.
