Breakdancing comps, cosplay parties and bustling night markets – BrisAsia Festival is back for another entrancing year

Pals, it's that time of year again – one of the city's most exciting cultural events, BrisAsia Festival, is back! From February 1 to February 29, our city will come alive with the sights, sounds, tastes and experiences of Asia. From breakdancing competitions to sunset concerts and bustling night markets, Brisbane is about to get a taste of both traditional and contemporary Asian culture.

Held across multiple venues around Brisbane showcasing Asian dance, visual arts, food, music, film and more – there’s something for everyone at BrisAsia Festival! The festival is an opportunity for locals to enjoy the rich culture, traditions and an atmosphere that celebrates Brisbane’s cultural diversity. There will be heaps of events as part of this year’s vibrant program, spread across venues like SunPAC, Visible Ink Youth Hub, QPAC, Queen Street Mall, Aspley Central, Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre and more. Dance as the sun sets at the annual Summer Party, where Asian pop culture and the art of Cosplay combine for a fun night of high-energy and vibrant celebration. If you truly want to immerse yourself in cosplay culture, Get Your Geek On! is a unique combination of e-sports, Cosplay, anime lovers and all things tech. Continuing the groove train, Queen Street Mall will host a break dancing and open style dance competition, where dancers will battle it out to win the chance to represent their country at Radikal Forze, Asia’s premier hip hop festival in Singapore. If you want to chill out and listen to some sweet tunes then gather your crew, roll out a rug and take in the soothing sounds of Brisbane’s best Asian-Australian artists at BrisAsia Sound.

Those wanting to get in touch with nature can take a guided mangroves and mudflats walk at Nudgee Beach Reserve. If the kids are in tow, you can take them to Bush Kindy, to take part in traditional Japanese Kamishibai storytelling and crafts at Boondall Wetlands. Of course, the crème de la crème of the festival is Lunar New Year in Fortitude Valley’s Chinatown Mall. The Valley will come alive with lion and dragon dancers, fire shows, traditional music, cultural performances, interactive workshops and roving street performers to welcome the Year of the Rat.

Keen to immerse yourself in another culture? There are plenty more events to digest – you can check out the full jam-packed roster of events on Brisbane City Council’s website.

BrisAsia Festival is one of thousands of festivals, events and markets Council helps to deliver each year.
