Jingle all the way to the ‘burbs – Christmas events happening around Brisbane

Jingle all the way to the ‘burbs – Christmas events happening around Brisbane

Now that December has rolled around, our festive sensors have gone into maximum overdrive. The Myer Christmas windows are up, the giant tree in King George Square has been illuminated and we can hear carols around every corner we turn. Why should inner-city folk have all the fun? There are a number of awesome community Christmas events happening around Brisbane’s suburbs this year, so with some help from Brisbane City Council we’ve rounded up a few that you should pop on your list.

Brookfield Bush Christmas – Friday December 8 in Brookfield
The Brookfield Show Society sure knows how to celebrate the festive season, which is what makes the Brookfield Bush Christmas so special. The showgrounds come alive with the spirit of Christmas thanks to some swingin’ carols, fun live music and (of course) an appearance from the Man in Red himself.

South Pacific Islander Christmas in the Park Festival – Saturday December 9, Boondall
Don’t want to restrict your Christmas celebrations to just one evening? How about a whole day-long festival of fun? The South Pacific Islander Christmas in the Park Festival has what you seek! Brisbane’s passionate Pacific Islander community has come together to create this festive-themed celebration that incorporates elements of their culture.

Ashgrove Carols by Candlelight – Saturday December 9, Ashgrove
Dorrington Park will come alive with the sights and sounds of the season for Ashgrove’s annual Carols by Candelight event, which brings together both Ashgrove and The Gap residents for an evening of festive revelry. Watch the candles light up the night as you join in on a host of Christmas favourites.

The Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols – Saturday December 9 – Brisbane City
Once a year, the iconic Riverstage comes alive with the sights and sounds of stars singing their hearts out for the massive Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols. Enjoy the magic of Christmas with some of Australia’s most celebrated singers and entertainers as they perform festive songs and traditional carols but be sure to get in early – this free event often reaches capacity very quickly.

Keperra Baptist Christmas Carols – Sunday December 17, Keperra
Brisbane’s northwest has a proud and thriving community in Keperra, which is why the Keperra Baptist Christmas Carols are always such a lively event. Settle in for a dreamy Sunday afternoon of carols, light displays and live entertainment brought together by the Keperra Baptist Church.

Bands in Parks: Tongan Christmas Special – Saturday December 16, New Farm
For a fun and breezy afternoon in the park that’s loaded with Christmas vibes but slightly less traditional, be sure to head to the Tongan Christmas Special edition of local favourite Bands in Parks. The Brisbane Excelsior band has joined with musicians from the local Tongan community for a Christmas concert featuring singers and dancers from the Pacific Islands.
