From fake news to boozy Shakespeare – Brisbane Comedy Festival drops insane line-up for 2020

Please note that the last week of this event has been cancelled. We will do our best to keep you updated with the most current information. Brisbane, we hope you've been doing your kegals because the Brisbane Comedy Festival is rolling into 2020 with a pant-wetting line-up of 85 professional funny folk to make you grin, giggle and guffaw. The month-long festival of fun and frivolity is set to take over 14 performance spaces across five venues around town from February 21 to March 22, 2020 so go right ahead and clear your calendar now.

From naughty puppets to a boozy butchering of Hamlet, the Brisbane Comedy Festival is dishing up a smorgasbord of hilarity and proving once again why it’s Australia’s fastest-growing comedy festival. Celebrating its 11th year, The Festival line-up delivers a good dose of Queensland acts including Mel Buttle, Steph Tisdell, Becky Lucas and Matt Okine alongside local collectives Act/React, Brisburned and Politics in the Pub. Comedy festival veteran Dave Hughes will once again take the stage and join the likes of Peter Helliar, Fiona O’Loughlin, Nazeem Hussein, Rosie Waterland, Tom Ballard, Gen Fricker, Geraldine Hickey, Frank Woodley, Sammy J, and the duo we-never-knew-we-needed-but-definitely-cannot-live-without Paul McDermott and Steven Gates. Rounding out the star-studded line-up are international acts Stephen K Amos, Jimeoin, Cal Wilson, Jonathon Pie and Shit-faced Shakespeare (which is precisely as it sounds) and if you grew up watching Agro’s Cartoon Connection, the cheeky puppet is back with an adults-only show Agro Up Late.

Got little ones in tow? Good news, Brisbane Comedy Festival’s dedicated family and all-ages program will also make an encore appearance offering a range of age-appropriate shows for kids (and adults) such as Mr Snot Bottom’s Horrible, Terrible, Really, Really, Bad, Bad, Show. Once again Brisbane Powerhouse will be comedy central with shows from its rooftop to its basement and everywhere in between. Brisbane City Hall and Newstead Brewing Co. will be throwing their doors open and joining the fray for the first time are The Tivoli and Fortitude Music Hall. Take a peek at the Brisbane Comedy Festival website for a full run-down of shows and to grab your pre-sale tickets before the general populace, it might just give you enough time to stock up on the adult-sized nappies.
