The musical component of Brisbane Festival is always a huge drawcard, with the event continuing to up the ante with its 2017 offering. We all collectively lost our bananas when the powers that be announced that London Grammar would be headlining a mini-festival within the festival that also features James Vincent McMorrow, The Kite String Tangle, Mansionair and Wafia, but there is plenty more sonic goodness where that came from. Other standouts that have been stirring up plenty of hype are local heroes Regurgitator performing The Velvet Underground and Nico (yes) as well as a night that plays live tribute to the iconic Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo+Juliet soundtrack (double yes).
Across the realms of sexy cabaret, crazy comedy and dark theatre, there are a few standouts you should look out for. Demi Lardner’s Look What You Made Me Do and Zoë Coombs Marr’s Trigger Warning are two equally hilarious gender-bending shows from the award-winning comedians, the astonishing circus production Per te makes its Australian debut and things are bound to heat up at Limbo Unhinged. If you’re down to catch a case of feels, I Just Came to Say Goodbye will do it – this show brings to life a series of anonymous apologies and real stories of forgiveness from people all over the world. Weekends at the Treasury Brisbane Arcadia will play host to a number of rad themed events throughout the festival – from Throwback Thursday to Sunset Sunday (when you can have a Pimms Picnic on the grass), the makeshift party zone is set to be a buzzing hub of free live entertainment across a range of genres.
Brisbane Festival kicks off this Saturday September 5 – to scope the incredible offering and nab tickets to events, head to the official website.
