Journey from concrete jungle to crashing waves for the Brisbane to Gold Coast Cycle Challenge

Cycling is the bomb – whether you’re into a bit of recreational two-wheel action or a full-blown lycra lover, the benefits of the sport really speak for themselves. Not only does it do wonders for your general fitness and wellbeing (hello, cardio) but it’s also pretty darn environmentally responsible. One of the wheelie gang’s biggest events is drawing closer – on Sunday October 15, the Brisbane to Gold Coast Cycle Challenge will see thousands of riders pedalling from concrete to coast in the name of charity and endurance, coming together for one of the cycling community’s most rewarding experiences.

The Brisbane to Gold Coast Cycle Challenge is an absolute beast of an event that has become one of the most beloved events on the cycling calendar. Put on annually by Bicycle Queensland, the 100km course begins at Brisbane’s South Bank with an uninterrupted traffic-free 17km start along the South East Busway, taking riders through a combination of service and suburban roads to finish at the picturesque Broadwater Parklands at Southport on the Gold Coast. For those who aren’t quite ready to go the whole hog, there’s a nifty 60km option that starts from Logan. Riders are pumping the pedals in support of the Heart Foundation, with money raised through pre-ride fundraising going directly to the cause. Good feelings all around!

As is stands, women make up less than a quarter of entrants in mass participation rides. The Brisbane to Gold Coast Cycle Challenge is breaking new ground regarding the gender imbalance in cycling, appointing a team of seven amazing female ambassadors to encourage more ladies to get on the road. Each of the women has been selected for their ability as well as their commitment to the cycling lifestyle. The diverse line-up includes a former international competitive cyclist, a cycling coach, the highest individual fundraiser over multiple years for the B2GC appeal, and a cycling devotee who’s helping to organise the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Keen to get on the road? Registrations for the Brisbane to Gold Coast Cycle Challenge are open right now – sign up through the official website right here.
