This year’s Brisbane Writers Festival carries the theme of ‘the big stories’, as well as the little ones in-between. A mammoth line-up of 16 international guest authors, 49 Australian writers and an impressive contingent of Queensland creatives will be sharing their stories and voices to give us an inside look at their work and the world of writers. Between talks, panels, debates and installations there are more than 150 events to enjoy over the four days, with a bunch being free to attend.
The program for this year’s Brisbane Writers Festival boasts a line-up of lit heroes across a range of genres that are set to get minds ticking and tongues wagging. The incomparable John Safran will be bringing his boundary-pushing wit to the stage, Tracey Spicer reps females in media, Brisbane hero Benjamin Law will be lending some wisdom and bestselling author Min Jin Lee are just a small taste of the talent on offer. The latter two will be appearing in a special Brisbane Writers Festival Literary Salon that explores how writers contribute to the world. This year also sees an amazing accomplishment in the form of Angel’s Palace, an immersive artwork inspired by author Alexis Wright’s critically acclaimed novel Carpentaria – patrons can enjoy live performance, storytelling and talks exploring Indigenous art, history and culture.
