Tinnies at the ready! Crafted Beer & Cider Festival is back for two days of froth-filled fun

If you could only drink one beer for the rest of your life, what would it be? Would you play it safe with a lager or pale ale, or live on the wild side with a fruity IPA? Luckily for you, Crafted Beer & Cider Festival is back for another year, so instead of limiting yourself to just one beer, you can take your pick from more than 300 unique brews from 58 brewers. The 2022 edition brings not one but two days of beachside, froth-filled festivities, as Crafted takes over Kurrawa Park in Broadbeach on August 27 and 28. Aside from the many, many tinnies just waiting to be sampled, revellers are also set to sip on seltzers, ginger beers, cider, gin, wine and alcoholic kombucha – all while soaking in the picturesque beachside location. When you're not drinking, chow down on some tasty treats and prepare to be entertained by a packed line-up of musicians and activities. Let's pop the top off this bad boy and dive in, shall we?

First things first, let’s do a quick round the grounds – or should we say round the tins – of the beers you can expect at the festival. Throughout Crafted, you can wet your whistle with some hot-off-the-canning-line brews, including festival exclusives, limited releases and a steady flow of the classics you love. Expect everything from ales, lagers, IPAs, seltzers, sours and every wild and wacky flavour combination in between. Local gin distillery Granddad Jack’s will be slinging G&Ts and cocktails from their two-storey vintage bar, while Carafe Wine will be pouring a selection of wines from some of Australia’s premier wine regions.

Now, responsible service of alcohol means you’ll need a little something-something to help soak up the booze, and Crafted has called in the big guns to ensure you don’t leave hungry. Will it be a pile of nachos from California Tacos, some saucy wings from Cycho’s Buffalo Wings, a pillowy-soft bao from Meat Buns, a gooey raclette from Church Mouse Cheese, or some sweet, cinnamon-coated morsels from Gluten Free Donuts?

When you’re not busy eating, drinking and having a merry old time with your buddies, you can soak up some music and have a boogie. Saturday’s line-up is led by indie-rock royalty British India, who is set to lead crowds through impassioned sing-a-longs and infectious anthems. British India will be supported by indie-rock sweetheart Hallie, retro-soft rockers Big Wheels and plenty of other indie-rock acts to help get the party started. Backing up the music action on Sunday is none-other than Bobby Alu, who will bless crowds with his smooth and soulful tunes. The chilled acoustic vibes will continue throughout the day with other acts including art-folk duo Make The Moon, electro-pop Brisbane group JUNO and the raw, gritty sounds of Heavy Wax.

As if that wasn’t enough, the Beatniks DJs will be spinning tracks on both days, so you will have no excuse not to get your groove on. If you’re up for more action, be sure to twist, sip and limber up at beer yoga, or try your hand at the annual ping pong tournament. Those looking to embrace the heat should also swing by the hot wing eating competition run by Cycho’s. If nothing else, it will leave you craving a sip of an ice-cold beer.

Is all this beer chat making you a little thirsty? Tickets to the Crafter Beer & Cider Festival are on sale now, so grab yours, gather some mates and a picnic blanket and say cheers to a tasty weekend in the sun.
