Festival of Lights set to illuminate Westfield Chermside with art and entertainment

Unless you’ve been living under a particularly large rock, you may have noticed that Westfield Chermside has been doing some pretty cool stuff lately. Between bringing us some of the most hotly anticipated food openings and fashion retailers in Brisbane, you’d think that they might be ready to give it a rest for a second – no way, pal. The foodie and lifestyle hub has managed to keep the hype train well and truly running – taking place from Thursday August 3 to Saturday August 5, the Festival of Lights is set to illuminate Westfield Chermside with some seriously stunning visuals and entertainment.

If you’re wondering why we’re so excited about the Festival of Lights, listen up – internationally renowned installation artist Kit Webster has come on board for the long weekend of light shows and entertainment. Kit is an absolute weapon in his field, having created some eye-popping pieces for the likes of Vivid Sydney, Sugar Mountain and Dark Mofo just to name a few. His new and unprecedented work will be displayed under ‘The Urchin’ during the festival, while a phenomenal light show will dance throughout the precinct – this will be further complemented by live DJ sets, free glow-in-the-dark face painting and glow sticks. As if that wasn’t enough in the visual stakes, you can also catch a stunning opening fireworks display every night of the festival – the perfect excuse to get in early and tuck into a front-row feast from one of the new food retailers.

The Festival of Lights features a number of mind-bending interactive projections and lighting exhibits that will have you feeling like you’re living in some kind of TRON-like universe. Punters can take in the splendour of a live light archway filled with tiny LEDs, a magical lagoon filled with creatures of the deep and a star bursting kaleidoscope walkway, as well as busting a move with a pixel projection man that mimics moves using Kinetic projection technology. If you can tear your eyes away from the displays, be sure to look around and scope the LED-lit robot stilt walkers roaming around the precinct.

Ready to shine bright? You can check out the free Festival of Lights at Westfield Chermside between August 3–5 every evening from 6:00–9:00 pm.
