Gift of the GABS – one of the world’s favourite beer festivals makes its Brisbane debut

It’s absolutely no secret that Queensland’s craft-beer scene is absolutely killing it. One need only look at the influx of local breweries coupled with events like our beloved Brewsvegas and Beer InCider growing stronger every year – the people of our great state take their brews quite seriously. As a result, Brisbane is finally being graced by the presence of one of the world’s leading beer events – it’s GABS time, baby! The Great Australian Beer SpecTAPular is making its Queensland debut on Saturday April 27 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, bringing all things crazy, sexy and cool in the beer world right into our backyard.

As you might have guessed from the name, GABS is first and foremost about the frothies. Here’s how it works – every year, the festival puts the call out to people in the beer industry to brew up something special for the year’s offering. Nothing is off-limits and people can get as wild as the want in the process – heck, this year’s beers include ingredients like pho, donuts, wine, hemp, popcorn, and green ants just to name a few. The 2019 edition of GABS has seen a whopping 120 brewers and cider-makers from Australia and New Zealand step up to create these highly exclusive drops – and GABS is the only place you can try ‘em.

It’s not just about the kooky brews you’ll find on offer – GABS is a full-on festival experience with loads of things happening to keep you occupied. The Little Creatures House of Fun will be overflowing with activities, including (but not limited to) vintage card games, crazy mini golf and hay bale bowling. Now that you’ve got an idea of the vibe, take in some of the other delights – Balter’s giant Tiñata, BentSpoke’s Roller Racing Derby, a scavenger hunt hosted by Mountain Goat Beer, Stomping Ground’s silent disco and Feral Brewing Co’s Biggie Bar (featuring burgers and DJs) are just a few highlights to keep an eye out for. Some of the city’s best street-food vendors will be on hand to keep your tum full and your drinking responsible – think King of the Wings, The Weiner Haus, Netherworld’s Hellmouth Diner and loads more.

Ready to rage? You can nab your tickets to GABS right now before they all disappear.
