Good Food Month brings all-star chef reunions, yum cha high tea and one-off pop-ups to Brisbane

If we can take something positive away from the hardships that 2020 has thrown at us, it’s a galvanised appreciation for the act of dining out. While the pivot of many of our favourite foodie haunts to takeaway was admirable (and delicious), we would be lying if we said we didn’t miss the atmosphere of sitting down to a meal at a bricks-and-mortar venue with our nearest and dearest. What a concept! Returning just in time for Brisbane’s dining scene to come out of a COVID-induced hibernation, Good Food Month is taking over our city with a series of unmissable epicurean experiences this November.

Good Food Month’s roster of special events is truly something to behold, proving that Brisbane’s gastronomic scene has managed not only to survive but also thrive during a very uncertain period. Guests can get a taste of Alanna Sapwell’s Noosa pop-up Esmay (minus the drive north) when it lands at Baja for two dates, while the beloved Young Chefs Lunch is going green for the first time ever with an all-vegetarian edition at ZA ZA TA. Hardcore foodies will want to jump on the one-night-only reunion affair that will see Adam Wolfers of Gerard’s Bistro, Alex Munoz of Labart and Louis Tikaram of Stanley reuniting for a delightfully nostalgic dinner party – the trio worked together at Sydney’s Bentley, so you know they’ll be bringing the flavour (and the memories). Sweet tooths can also look forward to the surprising union of Donna Chang and Gelato Messina for a yum cha high tea that promises to be an unmissable affair – you really can’t go wrong with these two culinary giants at the wheel.

It’s not just the one-off events that will be making you drool – the lauded Friends of Good Food Month program is returning this year to give us a taste of fine-dining fare for very good prices. You can expect a month of specials from the likes of Montrachet, The Golden Pig, Pourboy, Three Blue Ducks and more – think complimentary cocktails, discounted meals and special experiences curated by each venue to shine a light on their respective offerings. In accordance with the brave new world we’re living in, all events will be strictly monitored and capacity caps will be in place – so if you’re keen to nab a spot at a ticketed event, don’t sleep on it.

Worked up an appetite? You can grab tickets to all the fabulous Good Food Month events (and browse the rest of the jam-packed program) at the official website.
