Heaven & Earth brings a triple-threat talent showcase to The Judy

What happens between here and eternity? One thing is for sure – the arts make life worth living, and are capable of transporting us to an otherworldly place. From June 21–23, the Judith Wright Centre will play host to Heaven & Earth, three nights of unique performances showcasing the specialist disciplines of the Aboriginal Centre for Performing Arts. With one evening each dedicated to singing, dancing and acting, this is a triple-threat program that promises to be on another level.

For those who don’t know, the Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts is an inspirational centre of training excellence and innovation for contemporary dance, music, and theatre. Heaven & Earth marks the first time that the students from the ACPT will perform on The Judy’s stage since moving to the space in January this year. Each of the three nights of Heaven & Earth highlights the exceptional work from the students, spotlighting talent from both the Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses of each discipline.

The program kicks off on the Wednesday night with Melodies from Heaven II, the musical portion of the showcase. Students are set to stun audiences with a selection of full ensemble choir repertoire, acapella groups and solo performances as well as African American songs translated and performed in traditional language. Next up on Thursday is Lovers Anonymous, the acting showcase that brings a warts-and-all portrayal of young love to the stage. The works featured in the collection have been handpicked from a pool of contemporary Australian and UK playwrights, taking a more raw and stripped-back approach. Things end with a bang on Friday night with a dance extravaganza split into two performances – Riannon McLean’s The Clutch and Cody Raymond’s Fur and Feathers.

Each night of the Heaven & Earth showcase is ticketed separately – you can secure your spot at any or all of the sessions through the Judith Wright Centre website.
