Triple threat – Hidden Lanes Festival celebrates all of The Valley’s foodie, fashion and cultural gems

Triple threat – Hidden Lanes Festival celebrates all of The Valley’s foodie, fashion and cultural gems

Brisbane’s laneway scene just keeps going from strength to strength (Melbourne who?), and one of our biggest assets when it comes to this indie culture and ethos is Fortitude Valley. Known to many as a party and nightlife capital, our beloved Val has a whole heap more going on – thanks in large part to its famous bustling laneway precincts. On Saturday October 26, these nooks and crannies will join forces for the Hidden Lanes Festival, a massive free celebration of all things art, food, music, fashion and entertainment.

We mentioned that The Valley’s laneway culture was large, but Hidden Lanes Festival illuminates just how much the suburb has on offer – this one-day affair will celebrate the 80 businesses that call California, Winn, Bakery, Lucky and Little Valley Lane home. Headlining the festival is a top-notch line-up of live music acts, held across a staggering nine stages from 10:00 am until late – so you can literally rock around the clock. Notable names from the talent pool include interstate guests The VANNS, Tyne-James Organ and Cry Club, as well as local heroes Concrete Surfers, Pink Matter, Greta Stanley and oodles more.

As much as the live tunes are a huge drawcard, there is plenty of other activity happening at Hidden Lanes Festival that is well worth your attention. First up, the discovery trails are a must-do – you can stroll and learn across the fields of fashion and beauty, art and design, food and wine, heritage, plus a bonus market trail that features plants, homewares, ceramics, fashion, art and vintage clothing. Prefer to get a little more hands-on? There are 19 amazing masterclasses happening across the day that allow you the chance to pick up skills and meet some of The Lanes’ brightest makers – from cookie decorating to cocktail making and even how to do the perfect festival braids, there’s something for everyone to get stuck into.

This is just a small taste of what you can find at the Hidden Lanes Festival – for more information, times and maps of where to scout out the action, head to the official website.
