Introducing HOTA – the Gold Coast’s new Home of the Arts

Brisbane, we'd like you to meet HOTA (Home of the Arts). It's possible you've actually met before – HOTA was formerly known as The Arts Centre Gold Coast and as of today (Tuesday February 6) will be officially named Home of the Arts. This is way more than just a shiny new name – the announcement also marks the unveiling of the cultural precinct's $37.5-million outdoor theatre, which is underscored by a spectacular program of events that will take the city's arts and culture scene to dizzying new heights. If it's been a while in between trips, it's high time you ventured down to check it out.

This is big. Really big. The announcement of HOTA (pronounced hot-ta) marks a new beginning for the Gold Coast’s cultural precinct, with the new outdoor program to attract big-ticket names, major artistic collaborations and the best emerging local talent across a jam-packed calendar of intimate productions, large-scale concerts and everything in between. In a nutshell, we can expect everything from black-tie events to open-air performances enjoyed in boardies and thongs – in true Gold Coast style. The HOTA outdoor program will officially launch on Saturday March 17 with a free (yes, free!) concert by internationally acclaimed showman Tim Minchin. The brand-new outdoor theatre has also secured the likes of Australian music legend Neil Finn, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, as well as New York-based musician and film director Laurie Anderson, who will take up an exclusive residency at HOTA.

With more than 3000 square metres of landscaped lawns and a full theatrical fit out, the completion of the state-of-the-art amphitheatre is just the tip of the iceberg for the 17-hectare HOTA precinct (yep, there’s more!). The next stage will begin in mid-2018, which will see a new green bridge built between the precinct and Chevron Island. The bridge link will be closely followed in 2019 by the much-anticipated new art gallery, which, once built, will be the largest regional art gallery in Australia. So there you have it – HOTA is (finally) here and we’re pretty delighted to see this platform present some of the most exciting artists from the region and the rest of the word. What next? Jump online now and get to know HOTA and its exciting new program … and start filling your calendars.
