Karakorum: A Medieval Musical Journey brings together a whole host of talented individuals to create a truly once-in-a-lifetime concert experience. The medieval world rock ensemble La Camera delle Lacrime has joined forces with our own incomparable Brandenburg Orchestra and Choir to provide a soundtrack to Rubruck’s tales and travels, taking listeners on a journey exploring Christian, Islamic and Eurasian worlds. Forgotten hymns, melodies and chants will be resurrected and performed on rare instruments from around the world, evoking the true ethos of the source material – a mysterious, spiritual and cultural journey.
When a journey is as prolific as this, it makes sense to get a narrator to match. Artistic Director Paul Dyer wanted to introduce an English narration to the performance to guide the audience through Rubruck’s journey, and his first choice was the legendary Australian actor David Wenham (whom you might recognise from a little old franchise called Lord of the Rings, amongst other things). David coming on board pushed the production to an all-new level, lending his gripping tones and arresting demeanour to the overall sensory feast that is Karakorum.
