While the image of stacked-up junk may be considered unsightly to some, here at The Weekend Edition we share a slightly different opinion. Whether it’s a faded couch that would blossom into a beautiful living-room piece with a new cover, or a bedside table that just needs a little sanding down to be gifted a new beginning, sometimes the discarded goods on the side of the road deserve a second look. That’s why when we heard that kerbside collection was finally returning to our streets, we got just a little bit (okay, a lot) excited.
The hard-waste collection service was first paused in March 2020 due to COVID transmission risks, and then officially put on the back burner later in the year in order to help Council save some dosh. Now, it’s back with a vengeance and we can only hope the influx of online shopping during the lockdown months will result in a beautiful treasure trove of throwaways. Of course, there’s the other side of it. Spring cleaning will be made oh so much easier when the kerbside large-item collection service comes back next month so we’ve got more than one reason to be thankful for its return.
