Most of us aren’t exactly strangers to a bit of Friday night revelry, but Marvel Up Late is a social event with some kick. Each of the six sessions is headlined by musicians spanning genres from pop to electronica and even rock, with resident DJ Emma Stevenson spinning tunes in the River Room to get the vibes flowing before sets. This week’s debut session will see ARIA winning Art vs Science getting down, with sets in the following weeks from Black Cab, Habits, Olympia, Models and NO ZU. Bars around the venue will be serving up tasty eats and delicious libations to keep the crowds fed and watered, because there’s nothing worse than a party with no food.
It’s not just the music that brings people to Up Late – the Marvel series also provides a chance to hear local artisans talk about their favourite pieces in the exhibition as well as the craftsmanship involved in the pieces. Amongst the interesting and talented folk throwing in their two cents are blacksmith and Ironfist founder Robert Everingham, fashion and textiles conservator Michael Marendy, scenic painter Camille Serisier, makeup artist Billie Weston, wood crafter Carol Russell and jeweller Bianca Mavrick. Their different areas of expertise are bound to lead to some pretty interesting choices and rationales!
Marvel: Creating the Cinematic Universe Up Late kicks off on Friday July 28 – the first session with Art vs Science is sold out but there are plenty of other rad bands to catch! You can see what’s available and nab tickets here.
