A breakfast to break the cycle of domestic and family violence in Queensland

Everybody knows somebody. Domestic and family violence is an issue that is familiar to far too many Australians. The Queensland Government’s newly instated Not Now, Not Ever. Together. initiative aims to educate and empower community and corporate groups to act against this violence. On the morning of Friday November 22 at the Plaza Ballroom, Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, guests are invited to join together to share a meal and a common goal – to end this violent epidemic.

This will be the inaugural Not Now, Not Ever, Together. Breakfast held by the Queensland Government. The event, hosted by ABC’s Matt Wordsworth, will focus on the direction of domestic and family violence prevention reforms and the journey of corporate and community organisations in responding to domestic and family violence. Discussion will be led by Chief Advisor, Social and Stakeholder Engagement of Rio Tinto Rachel Durdin, CEO of AFL Queensland Dean Warren and Mackay Regional Council’s Mayor Greg Williamson. Panellists will share their own experiences and achievements from their workplaces in responding to domestic and family violence and provide guidance to attendees on how to achieve similar positive impacts in their own businesses and communities.

Proceeds raised from ticket sales will be donated to DVConnect and R4Respect, two non-for-profit organisations doing crucial community work. DVConnect provides state-wide family and sexual violence crisis counselling, intervention, information and pathways to safety for those in need. R4Respect is a Logan-based group dedicated to providing education and prevention strategies to young people to prevent anti-social behaviour and violence. Interested in making an impact?
