Views from the big blue – marvel at the wonders of the Ocean Film Festival World Tour

The ocean is one of those things that has the power to strike fear, wonder and fascination all at once – after all, it’s hard not to be at least a little bit affected by something that makes up so much of our planet. Whether you love it, are kind of terrified of it or just have a healthy respect for it, one thing is for sure – the ocean makes for a pretty striking visual landscape. Set to mesmerise and entertain in equal measure, the Ocean Film Festival World Tour is returning to Brisbane Powerhouse from March 28–30 for three days of aquatic-themed on-screen action.

The Ocean Film Festival World Tour brings together a collection of nine short and medium-length films from both Australian and international independent filmmakers, each with a distinct viewpoint of life in, on and around the sea. The intriguing roster of entertainment is designed to document in equal parts the beauty and power of the ocean – because as we all know, she’s a very mysterious mistress. The films explore a broad range of topics told from differing perspectives – you can learn more about the oceanic environment, marine creatures, surfing, coastal cultures and all-around ocean lovers.

When it comes to the visuals of the Ocean Film Festival World Tour, the filmmakers have taken advantage of many different styles, ensuring each piece in the program is unique and inspiring. What you can expect across the board is beautiful cinematography captured from both in and out of the water. The festival is jam-packed with never-before-seen footage, fascinating interviews and insightful narrations about the big blue. It’s not just about the eye candy – proceeds from certain festival events support a range of important partners working to keep our oceans safe and clean – think the Australian Marine Conservation Society, the Project AWARE Foundation and Sea Shepherd Australia.

Keen to explore the depths of the big blue? You can nab tickets to the Ocean Film Festival World Tour through Brisbane Powerhouse.
