Honestly, what’s not to love about Paniyiri Greek Festival? With two glorious days of Greek food, Mythos beer, dancing and more, it’s one of our favourite weekends each year. So to celebrate our love of Paniyiri, we’ve decided to launch a huge competition so you, dear readers, can enjoy it too.
From Monday May 8 to Thursday May 11, readers have the chance to join in a scavenger hunt on The Weekend Edition Brisbane, hunting for randomly placed yiros, olives and baklava that will reveal an instant prize (a double pass to Paniyiri Greek Festival), or the opportunity to win a Big Fat Greek Weekend fit for the gods, valued at $1744.
So what makes this Greek weekend so big and fat? Well, you’ll get a two-night stay at Rydges Hotel South Bank in a deluxe twin room for you and three friends, complete with a private balcony overlooking the Brisbane River from Friday May 19 until Sunday May 21. A special Greek hamper, including a $100 The Greek Club dining voucher, will be waiting for you to get you in the mood for your heavenly Hellenic weekend. You’ll also enjoy buffet breakfast each morning and don’t even worry about your car – the valet parking heroes will take care of that.
Because you can’t wait for Paniyiri Greek Festival, we’re starting the festivities a night early with a colossal feast for you and five friends at Zeus Street Greek South Bank on Friday May 19.
Of course this weekend is all about enjoying Paniyiri, so on Saturday May 20 you’ll make your way there with complimentary entry passes for you and five friends. You and your crew will have front-row seats to get traditional Hellenic cooking tips from Sweet Greek author Kathy Tsaples at 1:30 pm in The Greek Club ballroom, plus we’ve organised a Greek feast for six in the festival’s VIP marquee on Saturday night, complete with drinks, from 6:00 pm.
Alas, your weekend is not finished yet! Prepare for another full day of grape stomping and olive eating – you’ve got six tickets for day two of Paniyiri as well on Sunday May 21.
So how can you play? All you need to do is visit The Weekend Edition between 11:00 am Monday May 8 and 5:00 pm Thursday May 11. As you search through the site, you’ll find randomly placed yiros, olives and baklava in a number of stories. A hint for players – dig deep and be sure to scroll through articles! Some treats will be tricky to find. We weren’t going to make it easy for you! Simply click on the treat to reveal either an instant prize or a second-chance offer. If you don’t win an instant prize keep searching – there are 100 double passes up for grabs and new prizes will be released each day at 8:30 am. If you win an instant prize, you’ll be prompted to enter your details to claim your prize – but you’ll only have ten minutes to do so before the sneaky god Hermes steals it back from you! Instant prize winners also have the chance to win the Big Fat Greek Weekend prize – so you could even have a double win. Please note there’s a limit of one instant prize per person, we don’t like greedy mortals.
